The Island Free Library is excited to continue with the Summer Reading Program this year in a way that is safe & accessible for everyone. We wanted to give ALL kids, teens, and adults the chance to get in on the fun! We have worked hard with a national company called Beanstack to create a brand-new website just for our own reading challenges, & we are excited to share it with you when we go live on June 22! The site has been carefully crafted with the Block Island community in mind & with the goal of encouraging people of ALL ages to keep reading all year-round.

There are several ways to log your participation in the challenge once we are live: through the website (, through the mobile app (Beanstack Tracker), or you can check in with Ms. Morgan during the hours she is at the library, & she can input your participation into the program for you. Ms. Morgan will be at the library for select hours and will keep you updated with those!

The program will be open for eight weeks, June 22 – August 17, & is available for KIDS, TEENS, AND ADULTS! In each age bracket, there are reading logs & activities.  For example, for the kids’ program (ages 0-12), the goal is to read ten hours over the eight weeks & to complete five of the ten possible activities.  Examples of activities are to build a blanket fort & read in it, to have a family dance party, & to create a piece of art out of recyclables.  For the teens, the goal is to read three books over the summer & to complete one activity, involving writing a letter to someone younger & letting them know about one of your favorite books.  For the adults, the goal is to read five books over the summer & there are optional activities to participate in.  All program participants are eligible to win prizes, like ice cream coupons & gift cards to local businesses.

We are excited to share this fun opportunity with everyone, because reading is something you can always do no matter where you are! Ms. Morgan & the Island Free Library staff will be here to help every step of the way & look forward to spending the summer with you as you “Imagine Your Story”.
