The Extravaganza takes place in the basement of the Island Free Library. Friday, March 1st 4:00pm to 8:00pm, Saturday, March 2nd 10am to 3:00pm and Sunday March 3rd from 11:00am to 2:00pm. You can start donating on Tuesday, February 27th from 11:00am to 6:00pm, Wednesday, February 28th from 10:00am to 4:00pm and Thursday, February 29th from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

What the heck is an EXTRAVAGANZA?

The EXTRAVAGANZA is an all inclusive event.  Anyone can come to enjoy time together, get ‘new to you’ clothes, drop off supplies and check out the amazing Island Free Library.  One purpose of the EXTRAVAGANZA events is to positively motivate folks to get over a ‘hump.’  Life can bring obstacles and things can pile up.  An EXTRAVAGANZA is a judgement free zone and a safe space for absolutely anyone to drop off your ‘pile(s).’ Anyone can volunteer, all skill levels are welcome.  Jobs include: show up, thanking folks for donating, welcoming folks and encouraging people to browse, have a great time, sort items, keep items semi tidy/ organized by category, set up, break down, help people get items to their transportation, tell your friends.

The ‘funnest’😉 and biggest challenge will be to see who creates the ‘bestest’ outfit.

I think this is the 5th year of EXTRAVAGANZA-ing.  The first was at The Old Island Pub in their upstairs dining /function area. The OIP team is always awesome for their community support. They have opened their space for multiple EXTRAVAGANZAS.

During Covid, there was the MASK EXTRAVAGANZA. That was an amazing experience! Folks gladly pitched in doing various tasks (all remotely!) Tasks: donating fabric, cutting fabric with mask templates , donating sewing machines & sewing supplies, sewing masks, delivering supplies to make masks or distributing masks. Some folks also made hospital hats and more masks to ship them to people in the medical industry.

Saint Andrews Parish Center was another EXTRAVAGANZA host /location. Father Joe kindly opened the Parish Center for a much needed..’tail end’ of Covid community experience.

Looking through my emails, reminded me that there were a couple “Mobile Extravaganzas.”  Mobile because there is always a need but not always an available space or time.

2023, The Island Free Library asked to host the EXTRAVAGANZA.

2024, The Island Free Library invited us to return!

What donations are taken?

👍 CLOTHES: (basically anything that can be worn)

👍 PAST THEIR PRIME CLOTHES:  If it has rips or stains………bring that too *but in a separate bag please*

👍 CLEAN- BLANKETS, SHEETS, TOWELS (no pillows/ no mattress pads —**unless brand new and unopened)
