Fiction Writers Workshop feat. Thomas Smith and Rebecca Green

The Man Behind Dracula: Writing History into Fiction (Thomas Smith)
Thomas Smith, author of a forthcoming seven-book series based on the life of Vlad Dracula, will examine the history behind the legend. He will discuss the facts of Vlad’s life, the cultural forces of his time that still resonate today. Thomas will also talk about the challenges of writing ” true fiction”-transforming historical research into a compelling imagined world without losing sight of the real person.
Myth as Map: Using Fairy Tale and Archetype in Fiction (Rebecca Green)
Writer, Jungian coach and somatic movement practitioner, Rebecca Green will explore how fairy tales and mythology can provide an underlying structure for character development and plot. Through reading from her own work and a participatory workshop, she will demonstrate how archetypes, symbols and ancient stories can help writers map psychological and spiritual transformation.
Following the workshop, Thomas and Rebecca will come together for Q&A about myth, history, research and the creative writing process.
