Block Island in Hibernation: Remembering the 1950s with Dr. Benjamin Hruska

November 10 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Dr. Hruska will be giving a talk on recollections of Block Island in the decade of the 1950s. What did visitors see or envision for this place? What was the reality like for those 500 or so year round islanders? The talk will include a sneak-peek from Harvard’s 1952 design study of Block Island, the Hurricane Carol of 1954 and the memories of the Telephone Exchange in the days of the party line along Dodge Street (right next door at the Darius Inn.) Time will also be reserved at the end for anyone to share their memories of this most unique decade in Block Island’s history.
