Ben Hruska will explore the challenges and opportunities in the field in public history of interpreting naval history. Using real world floating examples, Hruska will explore the inventive nature of presenting the history of the open ocean on shore. Methods discussed will include the transitioning a ship of war into a stationary museum with the USS Intrepid in New York City and Battleship Cove in Fall River. Yet, naval history is connected to lacklocked locations as well, as seen in the memorialization of the USS Arizona in Phoenix. This talk will be followed by a Q & A period and a book signing.
