Welcome to the Kids page at the Island Free Library! We are committed to providing excellent services to children birth through fifth grade, and their families. In the Kids Area at the library, we have both fiction and non-fiction books, graphic novels, audiobooks, DVDs, and magazines available to check out. Looking for something to do when you finish your book? Check out a puzzle or a board game! While you are in the library, we have a bird and fish to say hello to, toys and games to play, a sensory wall and a dedicated space for both preschool and gradeschool readers! The library has a variety of programming offered for kids throughout the year, so be sure to check out the events calendar! The staff is always happy to help you find a book or answer a question. Come and visit us and see all the amazing things the library has to offer you!

This summer, our reading theme “Plant a Seed, Read” offers young readers the chance to explore the fascinating journey of seeds—from planting to harvest and how they become the food we enjoy. Throughout the summer, we’ll host hands-on interactive activities and programs that educate and engage us in the seed-to-table cycle, highlighting the vital role seeds play in our food supply.
Join us for a summer of learning and discovery! Just as a garden flourishes with care, your reading can thrive all summer. This program encourages families to “plant new seeds” and build connections with Rhode Island libraries throughout the summer months.
Keep an eye on our calendar for hands-on events, creative activities, and plenty of opportunities to learn, play, and connect. It is the perfect way to stay curious, stay engaged, and make this a summer full of growth and fun.
Keep on planting, keep on reading!
